The Muscle Mate allows you to gauge the level of muscle spasm by simply using your body weight whilst lying, sitting or standing.

Gently pressing the Muscle Mate onto a muscle. If this causes pain or the muscle feels stringy or thick this indicates a fatigued muscle. Healthy muscles will be soft and pliable and you should feel no pain.

The single dome-shaped knob is used for deep pressure and the eight smaller mounds have more superficial effect on the muscle fiber being stretched. The smaller mounds can also be used for concentrated pressure on specific points.

Maintaining gentle pressure, moving in a slow circular motion for approximately four revolutions across the muscle fibers. This creates a pumping action to enhance the blood supply and creates a stretch reflex to the muscle fibers stimulating normal nerve firing.

Only gentle comfortable sustained pressure should be used for short periods of time, ranging from ten to thirty seconds. During this time the user should be able to comfortably relax each muscle group being assessed. Movements should be slow and controlled with body weight being applied gently.

The slight pain produced due to the pressure on a spasmed muscle should be tolerated and allow the user not to reactively tense up on the pressure. This pressure has a stretching effect on the muscle fibers which allow the over-firing nerve mechanism to be reduced. As a result the muscle relaxes allowing an improved blood flow to relieve muscle congestion.
